A tribute to Giacomo Casanova on the 300th anniversary of his birth.
The award ceremony, which coincided with the tercentenary of the birth of Giacomo Casanova, the famous adventurer and intellectual who stayed at Spessa Castle in the summer of 1773 to review the drafts of his book, Istoria delle turbolenze della Polonia, welcomed distinguished guests, prominent figures, and institutional representatives.
The award went to Antonio Trampus, Casanova expert.
The recognition was awarded to Professor Antonio Trampus, full professor of Modern History at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and author of reference volumes on the Chevalier de Seingalt, including the recent Giacomo Casanova: il mito di un avventuriero (Carocci, 2025). Trampus is also known for his work as editor of the international journal Casanoviana and for coordinating innovative research projects such as Giacomo Casanova and his time.
An Opera Gala to Celebrate Casanova
The evening was enriched by a refined musical interlude, part of the Piccolo Opera Festival, with the Opera Gala “Seduction at the Opera,” which featured famous arias from Don Giovanni, Carmen, La Bohème, Pagliacci, and other masterpieces, evoking the seductive and passionate universe associated with Casanova.
A Celebration of History, Art, and Culture
Hosted by journalists Gian Paolo Polesini and Stefano Cosma, the ceremony combined historical rigor, artistic inspiration, and a celebratory spirit, paying homage to Casanova as a symbol of intellectual freedom and European vitality.
